Homeschool
Sports Program
Hello SCA, my name is Dan Lee. I am a former homeschool
student of SCA from 1987-1995. While attending SCA, I had
always hoped that they could offer more sports programs.
Now, I am starting my own business teaching sports to children.
I have been coaching kids for the past 8 years on an individual
and group basis. I will be conducting 2 free clinics for
SCA families, to give an idea of what my programs will consist
of. Please come join me. Immediately following the session,
I'll be available to answer any questions you may have.
Please look for the flyer with dates and location of the
free clinic at your testing facility. You can also email
me prior to the free clinics with questions. DanLee@hotmail.com
Thank you and I hope to see you on the field.
Mathnasium
Math Tutoring for Kindergarten through Pre-Calculus is available
at the Mathnasium of Lake Forest Math-Only Learning Center
Initial evaluation and parent consultation is FREE! Whether
your student wants enrichment or is in need of stronger
math skills, Mathnasium Math-Only Learning Center in Lake
Forest offers Kindergarten through Pre-Calculus math tutoring
on an unlimited drop-in basis. Mathnasium is a learning
center where students go year-round to boost their math
skills. We are highly specialized; we only teach math.
Our program is for students in Kindergarten through 12th
grade (including Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus).
Mathnasium members drop–in anytime when it is convenient
for a flat monthly membership fee. Our goal is to significantly
increase your child’s math skills, understanding of
math concepts, and overall school performance, while building
confidence and forging a positive attitude toward the subject.
Our approach is to use sophisticated techniques to determine
– with great accuracy – what a student knows
and does not know. Next, we tailor-make a personalized and
prescriptive learning program. Each student follows the
program with the help of specially-trained Mathnasium instructors
who provide instruction -- and lots of warm encouragement.
For proof of progress, we rely on in-house assessments,
the student's report card, independent tests, and parent
testimony, to measure the speed and magnitude of improvement
in math skills, numerical thinking, and attitude.
In addition to offering high-school math during
all operating hours, a “higher-math hour” is
offered twice a week. A higher-math specialist is available
to work with high school students for homework help during
this time.

Vicki Barnes Materials
Do you need help discovering your child's learning style,
or would you like to glean a few more helpful hints on how
to be more effective in teaching your children?
Last year Vicki Barnes, a Christian author and corporate
speaker, who has a heart for us homeschool moms, put on
a "Learning Styles Seminar" at SCA. She taught
us how to recognize our children's learning styles and,
therefore, be much more effective and better equipped to
recognize what works, what doesn't and why, teaching them
according to their learning and love languages. Talking
from personal experience, going through her seminar and
reading Vicki's book has been extremely helpful and an answer
to prayer. I can't recommend it enough!
For more information or to buy Vicki's materials, "The
Kid Book" ($10) and surveys to indicate your child's
God given personality/learning styles ($3 each or 2 for
$5), contact Dodee Inzerillo (email subject: "The Kid
Book"). This would make a great Christmas gift too!
Attention all Chess Players!!
The Fenger’s are opening their home for those players
interested in forming a chess-night-out-club. An informal
bimonthly event hosted at the Fenger residence with a design
to build friendships and to provide an allotted time to
pursue your skills at the game of chess. It is open to everyone
interested.
We are seeking to open the club in December or January if
there are positive responses to this bulletin. We also would
like suggestions for time slot choices. Thus far, we have
a request for Saturday evenings or Sunday afternoons –
again, this is a bimonthly affair. You can contact Medina
& Ken Fenger.
